Iceland Luxury Conference 2017 – A Rarity in a World of Plenty
The luxury traveler seeks out unique experiences and real connections in the places he visits. This was highlighted in an event on High End and Luxury Tourism at a conference held at the Hilton Reykjavik Nordica, Wednesday January 18th. The conference, organised by Iceland Luxury, outlined the challenges, opportunities and latest trends in luxury tourism.
Thorsteinn Orn Gudmundsson, Managing director of Iceland Luxury and Meet in Reykjavík, the first speaker of the day, answered the question: “Why Luxury?”.
Next up was Tim Loughman, Vice President of Luxury and Lifestyle Brands, Hilton Worldwide, who talked about Hilton’s decision to launch their brand Hilton Canopy in Iceland. You can see Loughman’s part below.
Tom Marchant, co-founder of Black Tomato, described the “Experiential Traveler” (see his part below) and Kristin Bjornsdóttir, representing Iceland Encounter, took on the question: “Who is the guest”. The final speaker was Thor Kjartansson, representing Discover Truenorth, who spoke about Iceland as a destination for filmmakers.
Halldór Benjamín Thorbergsson, director of SA-Business Iceland, moderated a panel discussion. Ninna Hafliðadóttir, Director of Marketing at Iceland Luxury, introduced the event’s participants.
